Twofer Tuesday, Wicker Park Fest 2009
As you know, Twofer Tuesday is long-standing tradition around AJdotC. So, as we considered what to deliver, we also checked out the deets on Wicker Park Fest 2009.
People not from Chicago have one of two takes on the city: A, “I love Chicago, it’s my favorite American City,” (thank you Mr. Depp,) or B, “OMG, I visited Chicago once and it was the coldest I have ever been in my entire life, I don’t know how you do it!“ People from Chicago will tell you that the amazing summers that are populated with, and therefore somewhat defined by, our amazing citizens, make the winters worth living through to the other end. A large part was what makes the summers great are the endless weekends of summertime street fests. The price is always right, the bands are pretty great, the beer is cold, the people-watching is worth the price of admission alone, and it’s a good way to check out the best of the city’s many, many, many different ‘hoods. (At the going rate, it will take nothing more than a string of three consecutive bungalows to constitute a Chicago neighborhood coming to a realtor near you. “Me? I’m originally from Michigan, but after college I moved into Frankville. It was Mikenjennifertown until they moved out a month ago, so until someone else moves in next door…“).
And so, this being summer in the city and being a weekend that’s coming up, we were looking at the lineup for this year’s Wicker Park Fest 2009–this weekend’s Wicker Park Fest 2009, to be exact. We noticed that Chicago’s own Company of Thieves is playing (not to mention an appearance by stellar, should-be-a-hell-of-a-lot-more-popular-than-they-are local-talent, Smoking Popes) .
Now, The Decemberists’ 16 Milatary Wives has always felt squarely inspired by Wes Anderson’s Rushmore. Well, if the Decemberists were inspired by that flick, Company of Thieves is straight-up paying homage with the video for their track, Oscar Wilde. Check ‘em out below. And this weekend, be sure to swing by WPF and tell them Adam Joe sent you. While you’re there, be sure to catch Van Ghost’s set on Sunday afternoon–good music by good people, sure to please. They definitely make us happy.
See you there.
