Memo From My Sweet Most Beautiful Part of the City

2010 June 3

I’m not a Disc Jockey, but I play one on the Internet…

When The Hold Steady‘s new album dropped a couple weeks ago, I was excited to hear the first few sliding notes of the first track, Sweet Part of the City, because I just happened to have Mick Jagger‘s Ry Cooder-ladden Memo From Turner spinning on repeat around that time.

As if Sweet Part of the City wasn’t already feeling great opening with a sweet slide guitar, it goes on to end with unseasonal sleigh bells.  When done right, I LOVE unseasonal sleigh bells!

You know, I’m a holiday music freak almost as much as I’m a regular Rock n Roll music freak.  You get those sounds behaving well together on a steamy summer day, that’s pulling off something very cool indeed.

And for the trifecta of coincidental sounds, I also just happened to get reacquainted with R.E.M.‘s Brian Wilson-esque At My Most Beautiful–which begins with unseasonal sleigh bells.

So, with all that waxing about the trax complete, to hear how I would spin those three back to back to back if I were on the air,  honored with being the DJ providing you with your audio enlightenment for the next 11:40, all you have to do is
press PLAY

I so love living in the future.  Thanks for listening!  We’ll be right back after the break…
