Andy Cirzan’s Holiday Obscura 2009

2009 December 21

If you’re looking to play some unique, Lo-Fi Christmas music during your family gathering this year, an alternative to anything you might have seen or heard on the Carrie Underwood Christmas Special, or even A Colbert Christmas, visit soundopinions.org and download both sides of Andy Cirzan’s 2009 collection.

From the site:

Andy Cirzan is the show’s official Kris Kringle, bringing in the coolest and weirdest holiday music on the block. By day Andy runs Jam Productions in Chicago. But by night he scours high and low to add to his collection of holiday obscura. Andy has been treating his friends to a holiday music compilation of these rare finds for over 20 years. And, for half of those, he has also shared them with Sound Opinions. Now we can make Andy’s highly sought after compilation available for free to all our listeners.

I’ve been grabbing all that Andy and the guys at Sound Opinions have been kind enough to share for the last few years.  Some of it has been great, some of it has been interesting, and some of it is unlistenable.

This collection is pretty solid in that you could put it on and let it go.  It even includes a track from Justin Wilson, the cajun chef!  You know that after watching Princess and the Frog, you are dying for a little N’awlins in your life.  Go get it!

Here’s one sample from his 2003 compilation.

Donna & The Dees – I know there’s a santa

UPDATE: Download for the 2010 collection is available HERE til 1/1/11.
