Happy Birthday Elvis! (You too David!)
(I wrote this last year, a day late. But hey, we’re all about recycling in this society of ours, right?)
It’s rare that I get to wish someone a happy birthday without adding the word “belated,” no matter how special they are to me. Elvis is no exception.
Had The King not made all sorts of bad decisions, he might have lived long enough to turn 75 yesterday.
I have to think he was under the influence of one bad decision or another when he performed and recorded one of my favorite Elvis tracks of all time. Happy Birthday, E! Let’s all have a laugh together…
Elvis Presley – Are You Lonesome Tonight (Laughing Version)
Regardless of what you might think of Elvis overall, it is an undisputed fact that he attained a level of cool that has never been achieved before or since in a singular moment in 1968. Believe it. Sure, it’s easy to try and dress up like Elvis when he blew up and sported jumpsuits on the Vegas stage. Try and pull off suiting up like this Elvis on your best day, and then keep tryin’, because it ain’t gonna happen.
I hear you, I hear you. “But Adam Joe, it was also David Bowie’s birthday yesterday!” Don’t you worry. We’re celebrating the Thin White Duke’s special day around the AJ Studio with a screening of SpongeBob’s Atlantis Squarepantis. David Bowie supplies the voice of Atlantis’ Lord Royal Highness. How can you tell that’s him under there for sure? Just look at his eyes.
